Scalability

Your business idea or successful start-up business has to have scalability. If it hasn’t got growth potential then it’s highly unlikely that an investor will put his or her hand in their pocket. An investor is looking to exit a few years down the road, and future purchasers of the business are also buying into the future, so you have to demonstrate that you have one. Your business model needs to be replicated successfully without your personal input – otherwise it’s a one man or woman business, which is fine if that’s what you want, but angel investors would probably want a bit more ambition than that.
